Flood/Spill Control and Site Isolation

Water management using dam and excavator helping in it

Rising To The Challenge

Hydra’s well-trained crews have had the opportunity to perform several river diversions and site isolations for construction and oilfield companies.

Red Deer River, Alberta

For the Red Deer River condo outcrop project, the Hydra crews installed Muscle Wall to control the flow of the river, and coffer dam for isolation to ensure that construction crews could execute the required concrete work safely and efficiently.

2017 Okanagan Flood

The below pictures illustrate a creek isolation project in British Columbia. Following the 2017 Okanagan floods, the Vernon airport runway had washed out. Crews installed coffer dam as construction crews rebuilt the runway.

Battle River, Alberta

Seen below is a full river diversion performed in December of 2017. Hydra crews isolated a section of the Battle River in Alberta while pumping crews diverted the flow; in order for construction crews to perform a pipeline integrity dig..

Hwy #63  Northern, Alberta

Hydra crews rose to the challenge on this difficult river diversion up on Hwy #63 in Northern, Alberta in the Winter of 2020/21. As they battled the -18 deg C temperatures, ice jams, & extremely porous substrate conditions; The Hydra team kept a positive attitude, worked as a team, & got the job done! Using Muscle Wall & coffer dams, they had to switch the diversion between two large culverts in order to prepare for construction crews as they proceed with installing a modern bridge. The setup kept the river flowing through the south culvert while the construction crews worked on the northwest side for a couple of months. Hydra crews then returned to remove the diversion turning the river down its natural path.
